FAQ

Plan river routes: mark start, finish and intermediate points, calculate distance and export to GPX and KML. Free online tool for kayak, canoe and SUP.

What is WetMeter?

WetMeter is a free, browser-based planner for water routes. You click on the map to add waypoints, switch between map layers, and export the result to GPX or KML for your GPS device or Google Earth.

Is WetMeter free?

Yes. WetMeter is free to use, with no account, no ads on the map, and no limits on the number of routes you can plan.

Do I need to install anything?

No. WetMeter runs in any modern web browser on a phone, tablet or desktop. Open the page and start planning.

Which water sports is WetMeter for?

Kayak, canoe, SUP (stand-up paddleboard), raft, drift boat — anything that follows a waterway. The tool is sport-agnostic; you draw the route, we measure the distance.

Can I import a GPX file?

Not yet — GPX import is currently under development and will be available in a future update.

How do I export my route to GPX or KML?

After you have at least a start and an end point, click the export button in the menu. Choose GPX for Garmin and most GPS devices, or KML for Google Earth.

Does WetMeter work offline?

Map tiles and routing need an internet connection, but once a tile is loaded it is cached by your browser. For true offline use, export your route to GPX and load it into an offline-capable app.

What map data does WetMeter use?

The default layer is OpenStreetMap. You can switch to satellite imagery (Esri World Imagery) or a dark-themed CARTO layer. All three are clickable and routable.

How is the route distance measured?

We follow the click-to-click polyline and sum the great-circle distance of each segment. For longer rivers, the routing engine (brouter) is used to snap the line to a known waterway.

How do I contact support?

Use the in-app feedback form (open the menu inside the map), email info@wetmeter.online, or message @wetmeter_bot on Telegram.
